Frameless Shower Doors
Frameless shower doors are high on the list of priorities for people with a desire to make their bathrooms and shower areas appear clean, uncluttered, spacious and modern. Cumbersome metal frames that need replacement shower door parts and are difficult to both install and keep clean are rapidly falling behind in the popularity stakes. The glass doors are easily cleaned with glass cleaner and not prone to collecting mould or mildew as is so often the case with frames.
In fact it is not only frameless glass shower doors that are becoming popular, but frameless shower enclosures, these consist of bonded glass sides that require no support and offer a truly open plan appearance to a bathroom. They are constructed from tempered or toughened safety glass that normally comes in 3/8″ thickness and is available in clear, tinted, textured, frosted or patterned glass. Your glass can even be supplied with sandblasted or etched personalized designs. These frameless shower units not only give a more spacious feel to the bathroom but allow features such as natural stone tiles or contemporary shower fittings to be more eye-catching as the transparent shower walls do not distract the onlooker’s attention.
If you are considering a bathroom revamp and not a complete re-fit then simply replacing the old doors with frameless shower doors on smooth chunky hinges (and fitting matching towel rails and handles) can make a major difference to the overall look of the room when used in conjunction with re-tiling the shower area and other minor cosmetic upgrades. Frameless shower doors deliver the open, vibrant style of clear glass. When space allows they can certainly produce a bigger feel to a small bathroom and a grander feel to a large bathroom.
Replacing framed doors with frameless doors is not necessarily a straightforward job, as more substantial hinges and other fittings will be required, coupled with the fact that these glass doors are very heavy objects, and as a result it is best to seek professional advice before attempting this type of job as a DIY project, or better still employ a professional to fit them.
There is, however a downside, and that is that frameless shower doors are considerably more expensive than their framed counterparts due to the heightened production costs as well as sturdier fittings required to support the extra weight. If the cost is less important to you than the sleek modern look of these doors, whether a frameless screen for a walk-in shower, frameless corner shower doors or an entire shower unit then they should be given serious consideration.
